Safety Tips
-
Park where you are not/cannot be blocked in. If you have to leave in a hurry, you want to be able to drive away without being blocked.
-
Do not turn your back on visitors - let them go up or downstairs in front of you, not behind you.
-
When you arrive, plan ahead to learn alternative ways out of the house besides the front door. Again, if you have to rush out, you want a path that cannot be obstructed by the bad guy.
-
Before the open house starts, introduce yourself to the nearby neighbors: "Hi! I am going to open the house next door today. If anyone blocks your driveway, etc., please feel free to come and let me know so we can have them move. Also, I am working alone today, so I appreciate you keeping an eye out for any activity that looks unusual!"
-
Greet people at the door and look them in the eye. People planning bad things are less likely to act if you acknowledge them and look them in the eye.
-
Always TRUST YOUR GUT!
-
Be aware of your surroundings.
-
Do not worry about being rude - walk out if you are uncomfortable!
